Picture, if you will, an uninhabited island in the South Pacific. Amidst the palm trees and lush greenery, tropical birds sing out a tune of Polynesian charm. Nothing could detract from this beauty. Nothing, that is, but the coughing and sputtering of a man making his way from the depths of the ocean to the safety of the shore. A crash landing in the Pacific. Astronaut, Tony Nelson. Lost and alone... |
An SOS. Palm fronds, driftwood and seaweed are his only chance for rescue. As he struggles to untangle himself from the kelp threatening to commandeer his arm, Tony notices a glimmer in the sand. He steps toward the glimmer. What is that? He digs in the sand around his find and retrieves -- A bottle? A very ornate bottle, at that. He smiles as visions of Aladdin and His Magic Lamp dance in his head. What I wouldn't do for three wishes, now. Oh, well. The "S" needs work. Tony places the bottle in a strategic spot and is remarkably overcome with a sense of fearlessness, as if no harm could possibly come to him. He rests for a moment, staring longingly toward the horizon. Come on, guys. I know you're out there. Find me. He casts a casual glance at his SOS to find the bottle out of place. Hmmm. Must have rolled. He places it back in the "S" and wedges it in the seaweed. He cocks his head as he watches it roll out of place again. Now, isn't that funny? Tony picks up the bottle and scrutinizes it. Although speckled with sand, it is truly a beautiful creation. Right out of Aladdin. Although he is quite certain he is alone, he glances around for prying eyes and chuckles at his newfound sense of the ridiculous. He silently reminds himself that all the wishful thinking in the world will not make the impossible possible. He grins to himself and uncorks the bottle. So, who's to know? With that, practical, rational, calm and level-headed Captain Anthony Nelson brushes the sand off the bottle's smooth surface.
Suddenly, Tony's face becomes bathed in a cruel shade of alarm as pink smoke begins pouring out of the mouth of the bottle. No longer the calm man of moments ago, he pitches the bottle down into the sand and stares in wide-eyed astonishment as the spectacle unfolds in front of him. When the smoke clears, Tony finds himself standing before the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. He cannot believe his eyes. All the wishful thinking in the world... No. She can't be there. It's a mirage.
Jeannie kneels down to the sand and bows her head low. In a language Tony cannot understand, she speaks: "Your wish is my command, Master." Tony rubs his eyes. This isn't happening. Jeannie rises up out of the sand and moves slowly toward him. With each step, she comes to adore this man's kind and handsome face. After 2,000 years of imprisonment, understanding only loneliness and sorrow, Jeannie is suddenly filled with a happiness she has never known.
Tony marvels at the beautiful, mystical image coming toward him. He is powerless as she throws her arms around his neck and kisses him adoringly. As they gaze into each other's eyes, Jeannie knows she is finally in love. Tony simply figures he went further into orbit than he thought.
And therein lies the tale, my friends. Adoring, warm-hearted Jeannie the genie rescues the now perpetually beleaguered Tony Nelson from oblivion and guides him into the greatest and most magical adventure of his life. From this moment on, he will forever dream of Jeannie.
